The exhibition hall is mostly composed of three areas, where visitors can enjoy unique specimens and attractive exhibits.
Dinosaur World exhibits everything about dinosaurs.
This area is composed of several sections, including “Biology of Dinosaurs”, “Dinosaurs of Japan
and Asia,” and “Real-size Dinosaur Diorama” constituted by a Jurassic forest, dinosaur
animatronics, and a computer-graphic motion picture.
In “Dinosaur Hall”, in total of 50 dinosaur skeletons are mounted with full-scale
specimens.
Ten of these skeletons contain a significant amount of original fossils.
Among them, Camarasaurus is the most complete, in which more than 90 percent of the original fossil materials are used to mount the skeleton.
Numerous dinosaur fossils have been discovered from the Kitadani Dinosaur Quarry since 1989, including two theropods Fukuiraptor and Fukuivenator, two iguanodontians Fukuisaurus and Koshisaurus, a sauropod Fukuititan, and an avialan Fukuipteryx.
In addition to the above species from Fukui, a large number of dinosaur materials has been collected through the fieldwork in the Kitadani Dinosaur Quarry.
These include skeletal fossils of Ornithomimosauria, and teeth of Ankylosauria and Spinosauridae.
A wide range of rocks and minerals making up the Earth, as well as fossils are exhibited here, along with the information on various geological phenomena on the planet.
Life has a very long, about 3.8 billion years of history.
In this area, various fossil specimens and restored models are exhibited.
The exhibits cover from the origin of life to the advent of human so that visitors can learn the geological history of life and evolution.
A well-known, 10-meter-long bipedal tyrant lizard stands here to be looked up from all
around.
Also, visitors can study various fossils through activities that include quizzes and the
magnifiers for small-scale observation.
Annually, we hold special exhibitions on particular topics.
